Description
The RAM .177 Pointed Jag (R 6041) is a calibre-specific cleaning tool designed for .177 (4.5mm) air rifles and pistols.
It is a brass cleaning jag (also called a pointer jag or spear-point jag) from the RAM brand, a popular South African shooting accessory line. The “Pointed Jag” design features a tapered, barbed or slotted pointed tip that securely grips cleaning patches, making it much more effective than a simple loop jag for pushing patches through the bore.
Key Features
Calibre-specific: Machined precisely for .177 barrels to ensure the patch contacts the rifling evenly without being too loose or too tight.
Pointed / barbed tip: The spear-like point holds patches firmly so they don’t bunch up or fall off halfway through the barrel — a common problem with basic jags.
High-quality brass construction: Durable, solvent-resistant, and barrel-safe (won’t scratch steel).
Threaded base: Standard male threads (typically 8-32 or equivalent small-calibre thread) so it screws onto most airgun cleaning rods and handles.
Compact and affordable: A simple but essential maintenance item.
Why You Need It
.177 airguns (especially springers, PCPs, and multi-shot models) deposit lead fouling over time, which harms accuracy and consistency. The RAM Pointed Jag lets you run solvent-soaked patches followed by dry ones to remove residue efficiently. Many South African airgunners and small-bore shooters keep one in their kit for regular barrel maintenance.
How to Use It
Screw the jag onto a suitable .177 cleaning rod.
Fold or wrap a cotton/flannel cleaning patch over the pointed tip so the barbs grip it.
Apply bore solvent if needed.
Push (or pull) the patch through the barrel — usually from breech to muzzle.
Repeat with fresh patches until they come out clean, then finish with a dry patch or light oil.
